High-rise skyline and beach at Balneário Camboriú

Port guide · Balneário Camboriú

High-rise beach strip — walk it, then one hill ride

Balneário Camboriú is Santa Catarina’s high-rise beach city, with towers hard against Atlantic sand and a long promenade made for walking. Cruise landings put you toward Avenida Atlântica. The cable car into the hills is the usual extra. Do not try a mall, an island hop and every beach in one call.

Atlantic promenade under the towers. Cable car is the hill option.

A full day in port

Into town

Transfer from the cruise landing toward Avenida Atlântica and the central beach. Taxis or organised tickets for the Unipraias cable-car complex. The towers look close; the heat on the promenade still slows you down.

Santa Catarina

A beach city that grew upward

Balneário Camboriú grew as a seaside resort on Brazil's southern Atlantic coast and then shot upward — dense residential towers right behind the sand. The skyline is the postcard now. Avenida Atlântica runs the central beach as a flat promenade of hotels, stalls and evening walkers. It feels more like a compact coastal city than a quiet fishing village with a pier.

Unipraias cable cars link the urban beach to hillside park trails and viewpoints above Laranjeiras. That vertical hop is what many day callers come for after the promenade walk. The Atlantic here is a swimming coast when conditions behave, not a harbour basin swim off the cruise gate. Beaches remain the daily religion; the promenade is where the city performs itself at sunset under tower lights.

Cruise calls are about landing, reaching the beach strip, then choosing whether hours remain for the cable complex. Stacking a long inland trip on top of a full Unipraias morning is how the return transfer gets rushed. Pick promenade plus swim, or promenade plus cable — not every option on the tourist map. not both at full theme-park intensity plus a shopping mall detour.

Walk the beach strip first. Take the cable car only if you still have enough time.

Ashore

Promenade, sand, or cable views

  1. 01

    Avenida Atlântica promenade walk

The long beach avenue is the easy win once you are off the transfer. Flat, shaded stretches, people-watching, coffee stops. Do this before you invent a complicated hill plan. Comfortable shoes beat rushing toward a ticket queue you have not priced yet.

  2. 02

Central beach swim and sand time

Swim when the Atlantic looks friendly and flags agree. Keep valuables simple and watch your bag. Pair with promenade lunch rather than a second distant beach unless you enjoy taxi time on a humid afternoon. Leave margin for the ride back to the landing.

  3. 03

Unipraias cable car and park views

Cable link into the hills for viewpoints and park paths above the coast. Buy timed tickets if you can and treat it as the main outing after a short promenade stretch — not something bolted on after a three-beach circuit. Queues build when several coaches arrive together.

  4. 04

    Laranjeiras or cable-linked beach coda

Some cable tickets connect toward quieter sand beyond the central strip. Fine as a coda if you started early and still have return buffer. Bad idea as a third major stop after a long Unipraias wander and a shopping mall detour.

  5. 05

    Sunset promenade people-watching

If the ship stays late enough, the avenue fills with evening walkers and the towers light up. Keep it local — you are already where the atmosphere is. Chasing a distant viewpoint at dusk is how people misjudge transfer time back to the gate.

  6. 06

    Beachside lunch with shade

Simple food near the sand beats a taxi inland for a restaurant tip you saw online. Hydrate. The humidity is part of the day whether you planned for it or not. Then either swim, cable, or stroll — pick one more thing, not three.

  7. 07

    Refuse mall-plus-island-plus-cable greed

Shopping mall, cable park and a boat hop look tidy on a brochure and messy on a ship clock. Choose the promenade plus one paid highlight. Camboriú will still be vertical next time; all-aboard will not wait while you hunt another ticket booth.

Before you sail

Landing, heat, one paid ride

  • Confirm how your ship lands and how long the transfer to Avenida Atlântica actually takes. The skyline looks walkable from the water; heat and distance still matter once you are ashore with a day bag.
  • Unipraias tickets and queues need time. If the cable car is your main aim, do not burn the morning on a long mall loop first. Keep water on you — shade helps, humidity does not care.
  • One beach strip plan plus one hill or swim add-on is enough. Dual long transfers rarely leave a calm walk back to the landing before all-aboard. Choose promenade-and-swim or cable-and-view as the primary story.
