Lead Spirit-class Fun Ship

Carnival Spirit is the lead Spirit-class ship from 2001, with a long Australia and South Pacific chapter. She carries about 2,120 guests on a mid-size Fun Ship plan — walkable compared with Dream and Vista sisters, and suited to longer sea days.

Main rooms and the Lido are included. Specialty nights such as Fahrenheit 555 and an Italian room carry a cover, with Asian or sushi options and Guy’s pool-deck bites among the casual extras. Serenity Retreat is the adults-only pressure release when fitted.

Evenings centre on the main theatre and Punchliner’s comedy. Camp Carnival covers kids. She is Spirit-class Carnival with Australasian miles on the clock — mid-size Fun Ship energy without Excel-class thrills.

Spirit is the Spirit-class namesake: mid-size Carnival for longer runs, still loud enough for a Fun Ship week.

On board

Restaurants, shows, the rest

  1. 01

    Dining the Carnival way

Main dining rooms and the Lido buffet are included — turn up, eat, move on. Specialty nights worth booking early include Fahrenheit 555, Cucina del Capitano and JiJi or Bonsai, with Guy’s Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina for pool-deck bites. Sea-day specialty tables go first. Drink packages sit outside the simple cruise — decide what you will actually order before you buy one.

  2. 02

    Shows and comedy

The main theatre runs Carnival production shows and guest acts. Punchliner’s Comedy Club is the late laugh room, with cleaner and adult sets depending on the night. Carnival is not a licensed West End title ship — programmes change by season, so treat any named show as current-season colour. Book a centre seat on night one if the headline production matters to you.

  3. 03

    Bars and after dark

Piano bars, sports bars, RedFrog-style pubs, alchemy cocktail spots and the casino form the after-dinner loop. Drink packages and specialty cocktails sit outside the cruise. The mood stays Fun Ship loud. Quieter corners exist if you want conversation after the show without the comedy-club volume.

  4. 04

    Deck and spa

Pool decks, WaterWorks slides where fitted, and adults-only Serenity Retreat take the daytime sun. Cloud 9 Spa sells thermal suite day passes and treatments; the gym sits nearby. Grab shade early on full sea days. There is no Excel-class roller coaster here — the outdoor plan is pools, Serenity and a spa you might actually use.

  5. 05

    Kids and families

Camp Carnival, Circle C and Club O2 take kids and teens, with hours that shift by sea day and port day. Splash zones keep the younger lot busy while adults rotate to Serenity. School-holiday weeks feel full — sign kids in early. Families who will use the clubs and the pool deck get the most from the ship.

Fahrenheit 555 / steakhouse

Fahrenheit 555 is Carnival’s classic specialty steak room and one of the pricier covers on Carnival Spirit. Quieter and more dressed-up than the Lido or main dining rooms. Go here when you want a splurge dinner, not a cheap filler night. Book early on sea days.

Italian specialty

Cucina del Capitano (or the Italian specialty room) serves pasta and trattoria plates as a paid night out rather than the included main rooms. Mid-spend specialty: less than the steakhouse, more of an occasion than the buffet. Book early on sea days if Italian is your treat.

Asian / sushi

JiJi, Bonsai or the Asian/sushi room is a lighter specialty night than the steakhouse. A cover or à-la-carte charge applies. Best when you want precision plates rather than a long plated dinner.

Guy's Burger Joint

Guy’s Burger Joint is the pool-deck burger counter — fast, casual and typically included. Cheaper than any specialty cover. Ideal between sail-away and dinner when you do not want a full restaurant.

BlueIguana Cantina

BlueIguana Cantina serves tacos on deck — casual Carnival food, typically included. A low-cost bite versus Fahrenheit 555. Good for pool hours when you want something quick.

Main dining & Lido

Main dining rooms and the Lido buffet are the included core on Carnival Spirit. Proper plated meals or self-serve without a cover. Best for most nights if you are not chasing specialty rooms, and the quickest seat on a port morning.

Main theatre

The main theatre houses Carnival Spirit’s production nights — cruise-stage spectacle sized for a Fun Ship, not a West End transfer. Titles change by season, so check your sailing. Included with the cruise; grab a centre seat on night one if the headline matters.

Punchliner's Comedy Club

Punchliner’s Comedy Club is the late laugh room — cleaner and adult sets depending on the night. Included once you are aboard; drinks sit outside the cruise. Best after the main show when you want a shorter, louder set.

Serenity Retreat

Serenity Retreat is Carnival’s adults-only deck — quieter loungers away from the splash zone. Included once aboard on most ships, though cabanas may cost extra. Best when you need out of the WaterWorks noise.

Cloud 9 Spa

Cloud 9 Spa sells treatments and thermal-suite access as a day pass or package — not included in the simple cruise. A calmer daytime reset than the pool deck. Book ahead on sea days if heat loungers and steam are your plan.

Fit

Who she is for

  • Bookers who want Carnival’s Fun Ship energy — a walkable Spirit-class plan and Punchliner’s nights on longer Australasian or seasonal runs — on a learnable deck plan.
  • Families and multi-gen groups that will use Camp Carnival, the splash zones and Serenity for the adults, and are happy to budget drinks and one or two specialty nights.
  • Not the ship if you want quiet traditional British dining, no kids in the public rooms, or Excel-class roller coasters. Choose a quieter line or a different Carnival class instead.

Where

Where Spirit tends to go

Long association with Australia and the South Pacific; Carnival may also place her on other seasonal routes. Check the current deployment.

Treat this as the ship’s range, not a fixed timetable. When this guide is public, sailings with two or more UK agent prices will sit at the bottom.

Before you book

What the brochure skips

  • Carnival’s Fun Ship cruise still leaves specialty dining, drink packages, Wi-Fi and spa as extras. Price the holiday as the cruise plus what you will actually buy.
  • Compare UK agents on the same Spirit sailing — same ship, same date, cruise-only, two guests. The hero price should be the lowest bookable one, not the first logo you recognise.
