Statendam bones for Aegean nights

Celestyal Journey joined Celestyal in 2023 on Statendam-class bones (ex-Ryndam, ex-Pacific Aria): about 56,000 GT and room for roughly 1,260 guests. She was rebuilt for Aegean nights and island-heavy weeks.

Main dining rooms and the buffet are included. Specialty grill and restaurant nights carry covers. Pool bar and spa cover the hours between port calls.

Evenings centre on the theatre and main lounge. She is classic mid-size Celestyal — Greek hospitality without megaship sprawl.

Journey is Celestyal on classic mid-size bones: island weeks, Greek menus and a ship you can learn in a day.

On board

Dining, shows, island days

  1. 01

    Greek-leaning dining

Main restaurants and the buffet are included — turn up, eat, move on. Specialty steak or grill and à-la-carte rooms carry a cover; book early if a treat night matters. Celestyal’s menus lean Greek and Mediterranean. Drink packages sit outside the simple cruise.

  2. 02

    Shows and lounges

The theatre runs production shows and guest acts sized for a mid-size ship. The main lounge covers music and social evenings after dinner. Programmes change by season — check your sailing rather than locking the week to one brochure title.

  3. 03

    After dark

Lounge music, the casino and pool-deck sail-aways carry the evening. Drink packages and specialty cocktails sit outside the cruise. The mood is friendly Aegean holiday, not megaship nightclub racing.

  4. 04

    Pool and spa

The pool deck takes daytime sun between island calls. Spa treatments are extras. Grab shade early on warm sea days. There is no waterpark here — the outdoor plan is pool, views and a spa you might actually use.

  5. 05

    Island-week rhythm

Celestyal weeks are built around frequent port days. Families and couples who will use the clubs or lounges between island calls get the most from the ship. Guests wanting days at sea on a megaship should look elsewhere.

Main dining rooms

Main dining rooms are the included plated core on Celestyal Journey. Proper sit-down meals without a cover. Best for most evenings if you are not chasing specialty rooms.

Buffet

The buffet covers breakfast, lunch and low-fuss evenings. Included once aboard. The quickest seat on a port morning before an island call.

Specialty steak / grill

The specialty steak or grill room is a paid night — quieter and more dressed-up than the buffet. Mid-to-upper spend. Book early on sea days if a steak night matters.

Specialty restaurant

The specialty restaurant is a paid night — quieter than the buffet. Mid-spend specialty. Book early on sea days if an occasion dinner matters.

Theatre

The theatre houses Celestyal Journey’s production and guest acts. Cruise-stage entertainment sized for a mid-size ship, not a West End transfer. Titles change by season — check your sailing.

Main lounge

The main lounge is the evening music and social room after dinner. Drinks sit outside the simple cruise. Best when you want conversation and live sets without theatre formality.

Pool bar

The pool bar covers daytime drinks and sail-away hours. Drinks packages sit outside the cruise on most bookings. Grab shade early on warm sea days.

Casino

The casino is the after-dinner wander for gaming nights. Included to enter once aboard; stakes are your own. Quieter on port evenings when many guests stay ashore late.

Spa

Spa treatments are extras — not included in the simple cruise. A calmer daytime reset than the pool deck. Book ahead on sea days if a massage is your plan.

Café

The café handles specialty coffee and sweet bites — usually an extra. Best for an afternoon pause between ports.

Fit

Who she is for

  • Guests who want Greek hospitality and island-heavy Aegean weeks on a mid-size ship rather than a megaship neighbourhood map.
  • Couples and small groups happy to budget for one specialty night plus drinks between frequent port days.
  • Not the ship if you want waterpark thrills, Broadway-scale productions, or quiet traditional British formal dining every night.

Where

Where Journey tends to go

Aegean and East Mediterranean itineraries are the core; charter or seasonal patterns can add variety.

Treat this as the ship’s range, not a fixed timetable. When this guide is public, sailings with two or more UK agent prices will sit at the bottom.

Before you book

What the brochure skips

  • Specialty dining, drink packages, spa and Wi-Fi sit outside the simple cruise on most bookings. Price the week as the cruise plus what you will actually buy.
  • Compare UK agents on the same Journey sailing — same ship, same date, cruise-only, two guests. The hero price should be the lowest bookable one, not the first logo you recognise.
