The ship
Pinnacle-class HAL: Music Walk before the waterpark
Koningsdam is the lead Pinnacle-class Holland America Line ship, delivered in 2016. She carries Music Walk, World Stage and a grown-up mid-size brief at about 2,650 guests. She puts live music and Culinary Council dining ahead of slides and zip lines — the HAL idea of a modern ship without chasing Oasis thrills. Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind and Rudi’s Sel de Mer.
Dining is the Pinnacle map: main dining room and Lido Market in the included dining, then Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind, Rudi’s Sel de Mer and Canaletto as the specialty extras guests actually talk about. Sea-day reservations matter for the paid rooms; Lido covers the easy lunch hours. Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind and Rudi’s Sel de Mer.
Evenings lean on World Stage in-the-round shows, with B.B. King’s Blues Club, Lincoln Center Stage and Billboard Onboard along Music Walk. Greenhouse Spa is the daytime reset; Club Orange is for guests who paid for that quieter dining corner. She is the lead Pinnacle-class Holland America — grown-up mid-size, music-led, not a megaship party.
Koningsdam is Pinnacle HAL: Music Walk after dinner, World Stage for the big shows, and a ship that still feels adult.

Music Walk, Culinary Council, decks
- 01
Dining with a Culinary Council
The main dining room and Lido Market handle included evenings and buffet-style hours. Specialty nights worth planning include Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind and Rudi’s Sel de Mer. Culinary Council names on the menus are part of the sell; book the rooms you care about before you sail or on embarkation day. Café corners and afternoon tea culture cover the between-meal soft hours. Koningsdam is not a twelve-neighbourhood dining circus — it is a shorter list done with more ceremony.
- 02
World Stage
World Stage is the flexible show house for productions, films and touring companies. Recent seasons have featured Step One Dance Company. Programme titles change by season, so check your sailing and treat any named show as current-season colour. Book a centre seat on night one if the headline matters to you.
- 03
After dark on Music Walk
B.B. King’s Blues Club, Lincoln Center Stage and Billboard Onboard form the Music Walk spine. Blues, chamber sets and chart singalongs sit a short walk apart, so an evening crawl stays easy. Drink packages sit outside the simple cruise — decide what you will actually drink before you buy a package. Quieter lounges exist if you want conversation after World Stage without the louder Music Walk volume.
- 04
Pools and Greenhouse Spa
Pool decks and hot tubs cover daytime sun without a waterpark. Greenhouse Spa & Salon is the wellness headline — treatments and thermal time typically extra. Fitness facilities sit alongside for sea-day routines. Grab a quieter lounger early on hot sea days; mid-size still fills the best rails when the ship is full. Daytime is spa and sun more than thrill-ride queues.
- 05
Kids and Club Orange
Youth clubs exist, but Koningsdam’s guest mix skews adults, couples and older multi-gen groups. Club Orange unlocks quieter lounge and dining perks if you paid for that private corner. Families with toddlers will find clubs; thrill-seeking teens may find the music brief more adult than Oasis. Suites and Club Orange are nicer corners, not a second ship.
Pinnacle Grill
Steakhouse specialty with a cover — Pinnacle-level HAL splurge. Book early on sea days. Go here when you want a splurge dinner, not a cheap filler night.
Tamarind
Pan-Asian specialty with a cover — lighter mood alternative to steak for many guests. Reserve if Asian plates are your treat. Check opening hours on your sailing — they shift by sea day and port day.
Rudi’s Sel de Mer
Seafood fine dining with a cover — among the dressier HAL specialty nights. Splurge territory. Book ahead. Check opening hours on your sailing — they shift by sea day and port day.
Canaletto
Italian specialty with a cover — pasta-led and often more approachable on price than Rudi’s. Good second specialty. A solid occasion night when you want pasta without full steakhouse spend.
Lido Market & MDR
Included Lido Market and Main Dining Room — everyday HAL meals without a cover. Best for most of the week. Ideal when you want speed over a long dining-room sitting.
World Stage
Flexible show house — recent seasons have featured Step One Dance Company among productions; titles change by season, so check your sailing. Centre seats help on headline nights.
B.B. King’s Blues Club
Blues on Music Walk — live sets many guests plan around. Included music; drinks extra. Arrive early for popular nights. Check opening hours on your sailing — they shift by sea day and port day.
Lincoln Center Stage
Chamber music on Music Walk — softer sibling to B.B. King’s. Included; intimate seating. Best for guests who want strings over blues volume. Check opening hours on your sailing — they shift by sea day and port day.
Billboard Onboard
Piano duelling and chart hits — higher-energy Music Walk night. Included soft entertainment. The loudest of the Walk trio for many sailings. Check opening hours on your sailing — they shift by sea day and port day.
Greenhouse Spa
Thermal suite and treatments as extras — not included in the simple cruise. Calmer than pool decks. Book sea-day access ahead. A quieter daytime corner than the pool scramble.
Fit
Who she is for
- Couples and friends who want Holland America’s Music Walk and Culinary Council dining as a modern mid-size Pinnacle sister ship, with live music ahead of waterparks and zip lines.
- Guests happy to budget for Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind or Rudi’s plus drinks, and who prefer World Stage and blues clubs to Broadway-scale arenas or Category 6 thrills.
- Not the ship if you need a family theme-park week, rock walls and slides every afternoon, or a British formal crew culture. Choose a thrill-led megaship, or a classic British formal line instead.
Where
Where Koningsdam tends to go
Holland America rotates her through Alaska, Europe and longer warm-water or world-cruise segments. Homeports shift with the season.
Treat this as typical HAL range. UK agent prices for bookable sailings will sit at the bottom.
Before you book
What the brochure skips
- Have It All-style packages bundle drinks, specialty dining and Wi-Fi — compare package versus pay-as-you-go before you book.
- Compare UK agents on the same sailing — same ship, same date, cruise-only, two sharing. The hero price should be the lowest bookable one, not the first logo you recognise.
