Lead Meraviglia Plus: Galleria at full stretch

MSC Grandiosa opened Meraviglia Plus in 2019 — longer and higher-capacity than Meraviglia and Bellissima at about 181,500 GT and room for roughly 4,900 guests. The indoor Galleria is the heart of the place, with LED spectacles guests photograph on night one. Up top, MSC Yacht Club keeps its own restaurant, lounge, pool and sundeck.

Main dining rooms and the buffet sit in the cruise. Specialty dining is the paid layer: among them Japanese and hibachi tables, a steakhouse, and Galleria kiosks for grab-and-go. Drinks packages and cover charges are extra — price those before the brochure photo does the talking.

Evenings run theatre productions and LED shows over the Galleria; daytime is pools, Aqua Park slides, spa thermal areas and kids’ clubs that fill hard in school holidays. She is modern MSC at Plus volume — not a quiet mid-size ship.

If you like a busy Italian megaship with a longer Galleria, Aqua Park and Yacht Club as your escape hatch, Grandiosa fits — just budget the drinks and specialty nights.

On board

Galleria, shows, Yacht Club

  1. 01

    Eating around the Galleria

The Galleria is where most people eat, shop and wander. Three main dining rooms and a big buffet cover the included meals. Specialty nights are worth planning — among them Japanese and hibachi, plus the steakhouse. Yacht Club guests eat in their own restaurant. Book a specialty table early on sea days; nearly 5,000 guests notice the same 19:30 slot.

  2. 02

    Theatre and LED Galleria shows

The theatre handles the big production nights. LED spectacles wash over the Galleria between house performances. This is cruise-stage spectacle, not a West End transfer — and the programme changes by season, so check your sailing rather than chasing a title you saw on last year’s brochure.

  3. 03

    Yacht Club and after dark

MSC Yacht Club is a private enclave: its own restaurant, lounge, pool and sundeck. Downstairs the Galleria bars, clubs and casino run late. Outside Yacht Club, drinks packages decide how expensive the evenings feel — price what you will actually drink. Families chase splash edges; adults often want the quieter rail. Thermal spa time is a separate spend on most lines — book a sea-day pass if heat loungers are your reset rather than another crowded sundeck.

  4. 04

    Aqua Park and spa

Pools, hot tubs and an Aqua Park with slides own the daytime. The spa thermal area is large and mostly extra. Families chase the slides; sunbed hunters need an early start or a Yacht Club key. Book thermal access ahead on sea days if that is your reset. Treatments, thermal suites and salon time usually sit outside the simple cruise. Book ahead on sea days if that calmer hour is the plan — walk-up slots disappear when the pools fill.

  5. 05

    Kids and school holidays

Kids’ and teens’ clubs run at megaship scale. School-holiday weeks feel full — expect queues at the slides and busy clubs. Families who will use those facilities get the most from Grandiosa. If you want a quieter mid-size ship, look at MSC’s older Lirica or Musica classes instead.

Main dining rooms

The included evening restaurants — assigned or flexible depending on your booking. Proper plated meals without a cover charge. Best for guests who want a classic cruise dinner without budgeting extras every night.

Buffet

The big casual option for breakfast, lunch and low-fuss evenings. Included and usually the quickest seat on a port morning. Ideal if you prefer self-serve over a long dining-room sitting.

Specialty Japanese / Hibachi

A paid Japanese and hibachi night — more of an occasion than the main dining rooms. Cover charge applies; higher spend than buffet or main dining rooms. Book early on sea days if teppanyaki theatre is your evening.

Steakhouse

The classic specialty steak room and one of the pricier covers on board. Quieter and more dressed-up than Galleria casual. Go here for a splurge dinner, not a cheap filler night. Book early on sea days.

Galleria kiosks

Coffee, gelato and grab-and-go along the indoor promenade. Some items are low-cost; fancy coffees and treats often extra. Perfect between meals when you do not want a full restaurant.

Theatre

The main house for MSC production shows — Broadway-style cruise spectacle, not a fixed West End transfer. Titles change by season, so check your sailing. Included; grab a centre seat on night one if the headline matters.

LED Galleria shows

LED spectacles wash over the Galleria between house performances. Included with the cruise — stand and watch. Best as free colour between dinners and the main theatre. Titles change by season, so check your sailing.

MSC Yacht Club

Private suite enclave with its own restaurant, lounge, pool and sundeck. Costs more than a standard balcony — you are buying space and shortcuts, not a second ship. Best if you paid for that quieter corner. Book early on sea days. Expect a cover charge and a clearer spend than the included rooms.

Aqua Park

Slides and splash on the top decks. Included once aboard — queues are the cost on school-holiday sea days. Best for kids and thrill-chasers; quiet sunbed hunters should look elsewhere.

Spa thermal area

Thermal suite access sold as a day pass or package — not in the simple cruise. Calmer daytime reset than the Aqua Park. Book ahead on sea days if heat loungers and steam are your plan.

Fit

Who she is for

  • Families and first-time megaship guests who want the longer Galleria, LED nights, Aqua Park and a long restaurant map — and who don’t mind peak-week crowds for that hardware.
  • Yacht Club bookers who want a private restaurant, lounge, pool and sundeck on a nearly 5,000-guest ship, while still being honest about drink packages and specialty covers outside the enclave.
  • Not for quiet traditional dining or mid-size walkability. If drink packages and cover charges put you off, choose an older MSC class or a British premium line instead.

Where

Where Grandiosa tends to go

Strong Western Mediterranean habit from Italian and French hubs; MSC can shift Plus ships for special seasons.

Treat this as the ship’s range, not a fixed timetable. When this guide is public, sailings with two or more UK agent prices will sit at the bottom.

Before you book

What the brochure skips

  • The headline cruise price often looks sharp before drinks packages, specialty dining, Yacht Club and thermal-suite fees. Price the week as the cruise plus what you will actually buy.
  • Compare UK agents on the same sailing — same ship, same date, cruise-only, two guests. The hero price should be the lowest bookable one, not the first logo you recognise.
