The ship
First Breakaway Plus Freestyle template
Norwegian Escape is the first Breakaway Plus Freestyle ship (2015): larger Waterfront, Aqua Park and Haven on about 165,000 GT — the template Joy, Bliss and Encore grew from. About 4,250 guests. Freestyle megaship energy without requiring Encore’s race-track length.
Main dining and the Garden Café sit in the cruise. Specialty nights are worth planning — among them Cagney’s, Le Bistro and La Cucina. Reserve the nights you care about early; sea-day tables go first.
Evenings run through the main theatre — The Choir of Man in recent seasons — with Headliners Comedy Club, Syd Norman’s Pour House and Bliss Ultra Lounge among the rooms guests plan around. Daytime is Aqua Park, kids clubs and Haven courtyard. Caribbean fly-cruise Freestyle at Plus scale — price the extras honestly.
Escape invented Breakaway Plus: bigger Waterfront, Freestyle dining, Aqua Park — without the later kart circuit. Budget specialty nights and drinks packages.

Freestyle dining
Specialty nights are worth planning — among them Cagney’s, Le Bistro and La Cucina. Main dining and the Garden Café sit in the cruise; specialty is extra. Reserve popular rooms on embarkation or before you sail. Price drink packages against the nights you will actually use. Book spa or specialty slots on sea days before the popular times vanish.
- 02
Theatre and nights
The main theatre is the centre of show nights. Recent seasons have featured The Choir of Man. Programme changes by season, so check your sailing. Beyond the main house, Headliners Comedy Club, Syd Norman’s Pour House and Bliss Ultra Lounge are the spaces guests actually plan around.
- 03
The Waterfront
Larger oceanfront promenade than Breakaway-class — dining, bars, evening air. Family meet point and casual plate zone. Peak hours are packed; walk the shoulders for a quieter drink. Claim shade early on warm sea days if a lounger matters to you. Sign kids into clubs early on school-holiday embarkation afternoons.
- 04
Aqua Park and sports
Aqua Park slides and active decks. Vibe Beach Club adults extra. No Encore-length kart requirement — Escape sells water thrills and Plus space. Early loungers on warm itineraries; queues for slides stretch on full sea days. Treat brochure show titles as current-season colour — programmes change.
- 05
Haven and kids
Splash Academy, Entourage, Haven courtyard and restaurant. Casino–shop loop after dark. Fits Freestyle Caribbean guests who want Plus size without needing a kart track; quiet mid-size seekers should look at Jewel class instead. Sign kids into clubs early on school-holiday embarkation afternoons.
Cagney's Steakhouse
Cagney's Steakhouse is the classic specialty steak room and one of the pricier covers on Norwegian Escape. Quieter and more dressed-up than the buffet or main dining rooms. Go here when you want a splurge dinner, not a cheap filler night. Book early on sea days.
Le Bistro
Le Bistro is the French specialty — quieter and more formal than the casual decks. Expect a higher spend than the main dining rooms or buffet. Best when you want a dressed-up evening without chasing the steakhouse queue. Book early on sea days.
La Cucina
La Cucina is the Italian specialty night — pasta and trattoria plates as a paid evening rather than the included main rooms. Mid-spend specialty: less than the steakhouse, more of an occasion than the buffet. Book early on sea days if Italian is your treat.
Moderno Churrascaria
Moderno is the Brazilian rodizio grill — servers carve to the table until you flip the disc. Cover charge applies; it is a louder, longer night than Le Bistro. Ideal if you want spectacle with the meat. Book early on sea days.
Teppanyaki
Teppanyaki is a paid Japanese and hibachi night — more of an occasion than the main dining rooms. Cover charge applies; expect a higher spend than buffet or main dining rooms. Book early on sea days if teppanyaki theatre is your kind of evening.
Main restaurants
The included Freestyle dining rooms — turn up when you want, no fixed sitting. Proper plated meals without a cover charge. Best for guests who want classic cruise dinners without budgeting specialty every night.
Garden Cafe
Garden Cafe — the big casual option for breakfast, lunch and low-fuss evenings on Norwegian Escape. Included in the cruise and usually the quickest seat on a port morning. Ideal if you prefer self-serve over a long dining-room sitting.
Waterfront bars
Waterfront bars carry the evening wander — bars, people-watching and the soft product between dinner and the show. Drinks sit outside the included dining. Best for a stroll-and-sip loop rather than a single reserved seat.
Theatre
Theatre is the main house for Norwegian Escape — production nights such as The Choir of Man in recent seasons. Cruise-stage spectacle rather than a West End transfer; titles change by season, so check your sailing. Included with the cruise; grab a centre seat on night one if the headline matters.
Vibe Beach Club
Vibe Beach Club is NCL’s adults-only sundeck with cabanas and its own bar — sold as an extra day pass or package. Quieter than the main pool if you paid for that key. Book ahead on sea days if heat and quiet are the plan.
Fit
Who she is for
- Freestyle Caribbean fly-cruise guests who want Plus-class size — bigger Waterfront, Aqua Park, Haven — without needing a kart track.
- Families and friend groups who will use Splash Academy, the slides and at least one specialty dinner.
- Not the ship if you want Prima Ocean Boulevard or Encore’s race length — choose Prima for Boulevard polish or Encore when karts matter.
Where
Where Escape tends to go
Caribbean from Florida hubs has been the long habit, with other warm-water and rare European spells. UK guests typically fly-cruise.
Treat this as the ship’s range, not a fixed timetable. When this guide is public, sailings with two or more UK agent prices will sit at the bottom.
Before you book
What the brochure skips
- Freestyle does not mean everything is in the cruise. Specialty dining, Vibe, thermal suite and most drinks are extras.
- Compare UK agents on the same sailing — same ship, same date, cruise-only, two sharing. The hero price should be the lowest bookable one, not the first logo you recognise.
